Officially summer is over and the academic session opens tomorrow. I know I am late about this post, but we have been quite busy this summer! This Summer I didn't take any courses from the University, instead I focused on self improvement and other fun project :) Some of the highlights of this year's summer were : - We went for a small vacation in Mexico. This was our first trip to Central America. It was a wonderful experience to enjoy Mexican hospitality. We stayed in Playa Del Carmen and visited nearby places. The tropical land along with its greenery, glimpses of Mayan architecture and exuberance is still very vivid in my memories! And did I tell you I like hot sauces and salsa :) ? - I finished up an online course on Graphic Design from Coursera. My interest with Graphic Design initially began while watching movie posters and book covers. I think the great masters ( or communicators) always include a message in their product design. Be it a book cover, or a CD cover, or a logo, there is a message in it ( of course I am talking about the captivating ones). It is important to know the " language" of design. This course has helped me to learn those languages. I can now understand, why the logo FedEx is designed like that. Or, why the HomeDepot logo is tilted :P As an Instructional Designer I find Graphic Design to be an embedded element - be it e-learning or written instructions. Anyone who is interested in visual arts will surely find this course very helpful. And to top it off, I got selected as a Mentor for Graphic Design in Coursera!! YooHoo!! I also got an one time contract with the Center for Diversity and Inclusion at UH as a Graphic Designer :) ( Preview of the product is here) - Another highlight of Summer was to start my first Instructional Designer job ( part time) at Halliburton! I am still learning the tricks of the trade, so hopefully within the next few months I will feel more comfortable in my role. I am immensely grateful to the MSHRD program for this to become a reality! So far, this summer has surpassed my expectations! It was good to spend time with my mom and my little one and do things which I enjoy! How was your summer, my dear reader?

Congrats on your excellent coursework this summer! I agree with you about the importance of graphic design. I try to teach students good design elements when they are creating projects for school. But, you know kids, they like to make things colorful and full of clip art!
